We dreaded ripping out our Saflok locks, but the cutover was planned room by room and our front desk barely felt it. Guests kept checking in the whole time, and the team had mobile keys working the day we went live.

Here is exactly what a Saflok migration looks like

The cutover sequence we run on most Saflok retrofits. Each step is sized to your property scale during scoping, never bigger than your operations can absorb.

  1. Scoping and quote

We walk the property or review your survey worksheet, confirm door prep, brand-standard mobile-key requirements, and the credentialing target. You get a real scoped quote back, not a placeholder.

  2. Sign and deposit

Once the scope is right and ownership signs off, the deposit goes in and the materials order is placed. This is where the procurement clock starts, not when install begins.

  3. Materials procurement

Salto XS Express SKUs ship in weeks. Most of the configurations we order are custom built in Spain and can take months. We tell you which mix your scope falls into the day we quote it, and we update you when arrival is dated.

  4. Install scheduling

When the material arrival date is locked, we schedule the crew and the training team together. Most properties get two or three weeks of advance notice so you can plan staffing, brand standard coordination, and PMS cutover windows.

  5. Day one: training team and install crew arrive together

Both teams land on the same day. Training and system setup start with your front desk and housekeeping leads while the install crew unpacks and stages the first floor.

  6. First-door verification

We install one door for your GM or owner to inspect before we touch the rest of the property. You sign off on the finish, the credential behavior, and the look against your brand standard. Nothing else gets installed until that approval lands.

  7. Door-by-door install during normal operating hours

We work room to room at five to ten minutes per door, longer if a door needs to be fully mortised. Typical pace is thirty to forty doors per day. No overnight shifts, no full floor takedowns.

  8. System setup and staff training in parallel

While the install crew progresses through the doors, the training team finishes system configuration, PMS integration, and hands-on training for front desk, housekeeping, and engineering. This typically wraps over the first three days.

  9. Training team departs, installer continues to completion

After training wraps the training crew leaves site. Your installer keeps the door-by-door rhythm until the last room is converted. You always have a named RevKey contact reachable by email during this window.

  10. Final walkthrough, handover, and post-install support

Walkthrough on every floor, punch-list resolution, and the start of a fixed-window post-install support period. Email response within four business hours through that window.

Why us, why Salto, why now

WHY US

Install-only. Salto-flagship. Veteran-led.

RevKey is veteran-owned and a Certified Salto Partner. We do not split attention across four brands or sell hardware out of a catalog. In the Salto model your support comes from the partner you pick, and ours is US-based, with a four-hour reply and a named contact.

WHY SALTO

Data-on-card, one platform, modern credentials.

Salto runs data-on-card, so locks keep working fully offline with no hardwiring; one platform spans guest doors, common areas, cylinders, and wall readers; and it uses modern encrypted DESFire credentials instead of the legacy formats the incumbent advisories exploit.

WHY NOW

Move off the advisory on your terms.

The 2024 Unsaflok advisory recommends a software update or replacement across the affected Saflok lines, plus reissuing every keycard and upgrading encoders. Properties that scope the move now control the timeline and budget instead of reacting later. If your locks are already in dormakaba's remediation program we will tell you honestly when finishing that in family is the smarter call.

Your migration options

Each option below is a Salto product line we install as a Saflok replacement. Click into the line for full specs.

Salto XS4 Original+ →Default for Saflok MT replacements

The Wide Body trim covers the existing Saflok door prep, so most doors take the new lock without new millwork. Runs modern encrypted MIFARE DESFire credentials, closing the MIFARE Classic exposure the advisory exploits.

Salto XS4 One →Compact alternate for narrow or design-driven doors

Smaller, discreet escutcheon running the same credential stack.

Salto XS4 Mini →For value-tier and extended-stay Saflok deployments

Lower per-door cost without giving up modern credentials.

Salto Aelement Fusion →For boutique Saflok properties where finishes matter

Premium aesthetic with the same security profile as the XS4 line.

Timeline by scale

Honest ranges, scoping plus phased install. Actual timelines depend on access windows, brand-standard compliance review, and procurement cycle.

  • Under 100 doors3 to 5 weeks scoping + install
  • 100 to 250 doors6 to 10 weeks
  • 250 to 500 doors10 to 16 weeks
  • 500+ doors16 to 26 weeks (phased)

Saflok migration questions

  • Do I have to replace my Saflok locks, or can I upgrade them?

Either can be valid. The 2024 Unsaflok advisory affects the Saflok MT, Quantum, RT, Saffire, and Confidant lines, and dormakaba's fix is a software update or replacement on every affected lock, plus reissuing all keycards and upgrading encoders. If your fleet is already in dormakaba's remediation program, finishing it in family is a legitimate path. We will tell you honestly which makes sense before you commit to anything.

  • What does a Saflok-to-Salto migration actually change at the door?

On most Saflok MT installs, Salto XS4 One drops into the existing ANSI mortise prep, so the door itself does not change. You move from the MIFARE Classic credentials the advisory forges to modern encrypted DESFire with BLE, NFC, and Apple Wallet mobile keys, so that exposure goes away entirely.

  • Do I have to convert every door at once?

No. We install door by door during normal operating hours, typically thirty to forty doors per day, with a first-door sign-off before mass install. Larger properties run phased over weeks against your access windows.

  • How long does a Saflok migration take?

Scoping plus phased install runs roughly 3 to 5 weeks under 100 doors, 6 to 10 weeks for 100 to 250 doors, and longer for larger phased properties. Actual timing depends on access windows, brand-standard review, and materials procurement, which we date for you when we quote.

  • Will Salto meet my brand mobile-key standard?

Yes. Salto installs to brand mobile-key spec and integrates directly with the major hotel PMS platforms. We validate brand compliance as part of the install, not as an afterthought.
